Have you ever felt this exuberant?
Sheer excitement rising from within. A candid snapshot of thrill being released and shared between friends in a moment of heightened connection and exhilaration.
Colorado was calling my son. Brett listened and answered the call...the second time. After initially declining CU Boulder to go to the University of Toronto, Brett learned that U of T was not for him and bailed with his future path unknown. Last July he announced he was driving out to Colorado and enrolling in an audio production program to pursue his love of music and the outdoors.
While Toronto led to a path of "Not Here,” using a phrase from Boyd Varty, Brett opted for a new track to Colorado. This pivot was not without angst and required facing uncertainty along with parental pressures and expectations, yet he listened to his heart and intuition. He is finding his authentic self and his own set of values, as required for maturity and adult development. His path is unfolding, and so is his voice, even literally. He is making music from within, enjoying outdoor adventures, and being inspired by the Colorado mountains.
Brett's journey reminded me of a video quote from my Georgetown coach training a decade ago. "Put yourself in the place of most potential” were the guiding words of Dewitt Jones, a National Geographic photographer. Brett did exactly this. He listened to his inner voice and put himself in his "place of most potential" for this stage of his life. This track might lead him elsewhere someday, or he might find a new track to follow, all while nurturing his ability to navigate with his head, heart, and soul.
✨ When have your choices put you "in the place of most potential" throughout your life? When not? If you listen sincerely to your head, heart, and soul, where is your current "place of most potential"? What track(s) would you explore?
✨ Getting Started: What attracts your attention and piques your curiosity? What is the smallest step you can take to explore that track?
“Vitality shows in not only the ability to persist but in the ability to start over.” Brett’s Starting Over experience and this quote by F. Scott Fitzgerald sparked my contemplation on the polarity of Persistence & Starting Over. I recognized that I lived much of my life with a preference for Persistence over Giving Up, the negative connotation I had for the pole of Starting Over. Yet, Vitality is what I gained as a benefit of Starting Over in various aspects of my life and career and what Brett gained from his move to Colorado.
Starting Over often feels like a failure, especially for those who have been taught and praised to work hard, achieve, and accomplish. Fear of disappointing others may also keep us Persisting. But, new beginnings can offer renewed energy and exciting possibilities more aligned with our truest desires and unique gifts. However, a new path is often foggy, with a destination out of clear view, so many of us persist with the comfort and discomfort of our current situations.
✨ Let’s recalibrate such that Starting Over is as valid as Persisting. Starting Over will still require Persistence. We must balance both to thrive and live with Vitality, Strength, Energy, and Passion!
So, it’s no wonder that when I named my 2025 year, what resonated was Exuberant Vitality! This year, I will make choices through that lens. What programs will I offer? What trips do I take? What work do I commit to? Where do I put my attention and energy? Where do I want to Be, and who do I need to BE to live with Exuberant Vitality this year? How can I put myself in the place of most potential to fulfill my longing for adventure, excitement, aliveness, nature, connection, and inspiration? I am committed to creating more Exuberant Vitality in 2025 for myself and others!
✨ What do you deeply long for? Do you know what your mind, heart, and soul desire? What supports you to live with Exuberant Vitality?
Let's live and lead with Authenticity and Exuberant Vitality!
